As Fiona Lee’s debut release, the album was recorded during the early days of her auditory journey between 2011 and 2016. The arrangement of the 7 pieces display the interaction of field recordings with electronic music. Audience could learn about how she listens in daily life, performances and sound installations. “Walking in a daze” refers to the state of her listening habits. By mixing soft noise and field recordings, the album expresses emotions and feelings on different spaces and personal memories.
This clip is mixed and edited with two field recordings of different locations and moments. It marks the beginning of my auditory journey.
– The crackling sound was created by a huge amount of firewood while they were dried in an open area in South Aso, Kyushu, Japan in 2011.
– The buzzing sound of cicadas was recorded in Lanyu, Taiwan in 2013.
Site-specific sound installation @Kanabun cafe, Amino, Kyoto, 2014.
Electromagnetic soundwaves emitted by different kinds of electronic devices, such as wifi-routers, CD-Players and Wacom drawing tablets are mixed with the sound of vehicles passing by.
This clip involves the mixing of two field recordings. One of them was recorded at Kaitak Cruise Terminal in June 2015.
I was listening to the sound of rising and falling wind which came from a manhole. The wind was caused by the undulating sea waves under the platform.
The second field recording took place during the Umbrella Movement in 2014. I was listening to every manhole cover placed on the ground by protestors inside the Lung Wo Road Tunnel to block roads.
Site-specific performance @ the Circular Staircase in Foo Tak Building (Wan Chai)
I utilized the sound of water dripping from the top of the building to the ground floor staircase. A radio was fixed hanging on the fishing rod, which was rolled up and down between different floors. The sound of the water dripping is transmitted to this radio. Through this setting and my interruption of the water drops, the audience can experience the relationship between gravity, time, interval and space.
Moreover, the stair railing is used as a percussion instrument during the performance to reveal echoes of the space and its harmonic tone.
-May 2016, sound recording by Wilmer Chen
This performance involves fluorescent light bulbs, a modular synthesizer and a circular magnet rotating in a glass bowl, driven by electromagnetic fields generated by a vortex coil.
A field recording documented using hydrophones in Sai Wan, Sai Kung, Hong Kong. The piece is mixed with sounds from a modular synthesizer.
A field recording about every single interruption created by human beings and machines in Naoshima Ferry Pier, Japan.

About the Album 關於專輯｜
DAY AFTER翌日 [2014. 9.29 – 12.12] is a collective album of the sounds of Umbrella Movement. DAY AFTER presents the chronological order of the recordings from September 29 to December 12, that is, from the day after the police shot tear gas to the day after the clearance. This album began as a field recording investigative project initiated by The Library by soundpocket in January 2015. Aiming at collecting and preserving the first hand materials of the Umbrella Movement from the angle of‘sound, the investigation put together the sonic recordings and artists’ testimony about their listening experiences in a bona fide social movement.

The Third Space is an invitational programme series that introduces alternative learning platforms to re-imagine art education. By creating an open space for independent thought, we activate and engage in environments beyond the boundaries of home and workplace. Through the programme, participants establish a new sense of space and belonging in the city while making connections between art and society.
Invited co-organiser for the inaugural programme Michael Leung gravitates towards places where communities voluntarily gather, root, and responsibly thrive. He also believes in alternative learning platforms that bring students to places outside of conventional classrooms.
Leading up to Sai Wan Winter Camp, a series of public programmes provides an opportunity for a wider audience to engage in the themes to be explored during camp. It is also a chance for camp participants to prepare their mindsets and build knowledge prior to the trip. More.
In this year’s Sai Wan Winter Camp, participants pitch tents in Sai Wan Sai Kung. What does it mean to inhabit public space? In open space, how can we engage with sounds—something that has no discernible substance or mass? Can we be conscious of the way we consume and make sense of everyday objects to rediscover our understanding of the world?
Sai Wan village is one of the last heritage settlements of Hong Kong due to historical and geographical factors. Disputes about the usage of the land erupted in 2010 among indigenous Sai Wan villagers, the government’s Agriculture Fisheries and Conservation Department, and a private investor. Leung has been exploring salt-making and sustainable living alongside local villagers in Sai Wan, and through active collective engagement, the programme prompts us to question and examine public space and civic culture, reflect on our relationship to the environment, and reconnect with nature. More.
A series of post-camp programmes generated by participants, artists, and other arts organisations to extend discussions from the camp back to the city. More.
To apply, please fill out this application form and email it to email@example.com, or fax to +852 2815 0032 by Sun 15 Nov 2015. Successful applicants will have a pre-camp briefing session prior to a preceding programme on Sat 21 Nov from 6:45–8:15pm.

The first day I arrived at the hotel in Taipei, I opened the window in my room.
There were birds singing on the tree near the residential area.
I was moved by this scenery and soundscape and I started my journey in Taiwan.
During the nights in Tai Tung and orchid Island (Lanyu), I was surrounded by the sounds of cicada, “Wu,Wu” from the Owl, “Sa.sa” from the trees, as well as the sound from the seashore and little frogs. I felt like being are part of the nature, being with the nature. I was a little organism sharing a moment and some space with the others in the nature.
Let me share this experience with you and I invite you to listen to my creations about the journey during the rooftop performance.

2 guided soundwalks
led by Lee Wing-shan Fiona & Au Wing-yan Step
– hosted by soundpocket as part of the MaD’s programme “Studio in-Situ: Among Mountains and Streams”
Artists Lee Wing-shan Fiona and Au Wing-yan Step will take us on soundwalks around Sha Tin and Shek Kip Mei respectively. They had designed these exercises for the ear to listen to the chacha sounds of the running water of the Shing Mun River, the rustle of the leaves in the trees and the twinkling tips of trees.
Perfect Whisper – led by Lee Wing-shan Fiona
May 19 (Sunday), 2013 | 7:00 – 9:00am
Fiona says, “In the morning in the city, you can hear sounds made from different biological activities. They are the whisper of the morning and waking up of the city. No one is nosier than anyone else. In fact, the birds have been calling to start the day while you’re sleeping; and breakfast is already prepared for you. Let’s slow down and feel the space and sounds in this city”.
Aging Wood – led by Au Wing-yan Step
May 19 (Sunday), 2013 | 9:00am – 11:00am
Step says, “At the age of fourteen, I joined a tree therapy programme organized by a religious group. In a journey to the forest, I was introduced to the way of tranquilizing human mind through interacting with plantations there. During the soundwalk, I would like to examine how human perceive the sound of trees in our imagination and in reality”.
